What is Poly? Poly is short for "Polygamy", "Polygyny", "Bigamy", "Polyandry", "Polyamory", "Polyfidelity", "Polyfaithful", "Polymonogamy" and more...

Your first reaction to learning that your loved one is poly can range anywhere from anger to sadness, fear to hurt, confusion to grief, and anywhere and everything in between. These emotions and the thousands of others that parents, families, friends and society experience as they navigate their loved ones coming out process are normal.

We can tell you with absolute certainty that you're not alone. According to statistics, 16% of recorded cultures have been monogamous - 84% have been non monogamous! How about that? At least 20% of poly people in this country and around the world is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (GLBT). At least one in four families has an immediate family member who is GLBT and or poly, and most people have at least one GLBT and or poly individual in their extended circle of friends and family.

Parents, Friends and Family of the Poly Community (PFFPC) is here for you. Our members are parents, friends and family of Poly and/or GLBT people and Poly and/or GLBT people themselves. We have been through much of what you are now feeling. We understand.

The first thing you should do for yourself and your loved one is to talk to someone who has been through this process. Whether it is by e-mail, phone or in-person at a poly meeting listening to and talking to those who have experienced the feelings you are encountering can be both cathartic and comforting. PFFPC is looking for chapters and representatives across the country ready and willing to work with friends and family both in meeting and in a one on one basis. Sign up to find or become a chapter.

The second thing you should do is educate yourself. On here you will find resources specific to friends and families of the Poly and GLBT community's. All of these will be available for free right here. You may also go to www.PolyNetworking.com to learn more about the poly community. Please also consider joining www.PFLAG.org, if you loved one is GLBT. As a member of either site you are entitled to support education and advocacy materials whose focus are helping you help you friend, child or loved one.

Since my girlfriend came out of the closet to me and we started looking for our third, one year we went on a retreat for her birthday / Mothers day. While lining up the bed and breakfast for the weekend I thought I would explore the possibility of going back someday with our girlfriend, the three of us. It was awkward for all their accommodations were for two and me asking about a third gave me weird feedback from over the phone. Since that time I had been thinking of creating or finding a place that accommodates people like us, the phone book has what we call the rainbow pages, so I looked up the poly pages and it was not available but also not being used to represent poly people. Recently I have made a new associate through advertising my poly networking site. He has resurrected the thought I once had and now have the means to create. So here is a FREE place for poly people or those who don't discriminate against us to advertise their business without ridicule or condemnation.
